FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What should I wear/bring?

For your comfort, you may want to bring sun protection, water bottles, bug spray, sunglasses, and a hat or visor. You should also wear appropriate footwear as the ground is uneven in spots. You may also like to pack a snack as cutting flowers can work up an appetite. Lastly and most importantly, bring a good attitude ready to have fun and relax.

Do I need to bring my own scissors?

Nope, we provide them for you. Sharp clean flower snips are important for the plant heath, so we want to make sure that is what is being used in the garden. Please Note: only adults are permitted to use the flower snips per our insurance policy.

How many flowers can I cut?

You are given a harvest tote to use the size of a wide mouth mason jar to fill (not stuff), which will hold approximately 14 – 20 stems depending on the type of flowers you choose. For example, sunflower stems are thicker than zinnia stems are therefore you will fit less in the cup.

Please refrain from overfilling your cup as you risk breaking the flowers’ petals off and stem, thus shortening the vase life of your beautiful flowers.

What type of flowers are in the garden?

The joy of growing a cut garden is experiment each year with new varieties, so what is available can vary year-to-year. However,  there will always be Sunflowers, Zinnias and Cosmos in our cut flower garden as they are the staple of any Ohio cut flower garden.

I have never cut fresh flowers before; how will I know where to cut them?

No worries, we show you during the flower garden tour. Plus, we will be availabel to help you if you have questions.

Why would I pay to cut flowers when I can get them from the store?

In all honestly, for the experience! The flowers are secondary and what people really come for is the experience of being surrounded by the beauty of all the flowers and to let go of the hustle and bustle of their daily lives to explore the garden with child-like wonder again. Your fresh cut bouquet of flowers will serve as a daily reminder of this experience, one that you cannot get from a store bought bouquet.

Why a Tuesday and why is the harvest time so late in the evening?

We know your summers are filled with all kinds of activities on the weekends... vacations, weddings, family reunions, etc. We wanted to make sure you could make this special time for yourself AND to be able to enjoy your beautiful flowers during the week before the weekend.  As far as the evening harvest goes, flowers that are cut in the heat of the day don’t last as long and are prone to wilting, this is why we only open the garden in the evenings.

How do I safely transport my flowers home?

You can keep your bouquet in the mason jar to transport them home or you can transfer it to your keepsake mocktail cup as it will fit in most vehicle cup holders. Or we can help you secure your bouquet with rubber bands for you to arrange in a vase at home.

Can I bring a guest with me to the cut flower garden?

A guest pass (8 years and older only) can be purchased for an additional fee during reservation check out. A guest pass allows you to bring someone 8 years and older with you to share in the experience. Guests will be given a keepsake cup and served a mocktail.

IMPORTANT: If your guest wants to cut a bouquet for themselves then they need to purchase their own reservation. Guest pass do not include any flowers. Also, please note children under 7 years old are not permitted in the cut flower garden.

Is the cut flower garden wheelchair friendly?

Yes and no. While the paths are wide enough some of the rows are not even ground which could make maneuvering difficult. In addition, after periods of heavy rain the rows would be too soft for a wheelchair.

Do you have a restroom?

Yes, we have a restroom trailer with flushing toilets and running water. Please note the trailer has stairs and is not wheelchair accessible.

Where do I park when I arrive?

In the front of the yellow parking pavers by the barn.

Are the drinks alcoholic beverages?

No. The drinks served will not contain any alcohol.

Will the wildflower gardens and nature paths be open during my visit?

No, sorry. Blooms & Bubbly participants are only permitted in the cut flower garden during their visit.

Why is the registration window only open 21 days before the event?

When working with mother nature anything can happen, so we need to make sure we have enough flowers for your visit. As farmers we have the challenging job of making sure to give our customers enough time to plan as well as "guesstimate" on how fast things will grow and be available... it is not for the faint of heart for sure.
